Friday Class Assignment 3
Hi everyone! Here’s your final assignment for this term.
We’ve been practicing the third conditional, which is when you talk about things in the past that aren’t true. (Here’s my explanation.) So, I’d like you to share five wishes, along with five conditional sentences. You can only use the subject “I” for two of your sentences, though.
For example, you could say:
“Pedro wishes he hadn’t studied math. If he hadn’t studied math, he would have learned how to be a magician.”
(That example would count as one wish and one conditional sentence.)
Please finish this and any other assignments you want credit for by next Thursday, October 29th. And don’t forget the final exam next week!

Hi Ryan, please find attached my five wishes using the third conditional:
I wish I had been the President of Teradyne. If I had been the President of Teradyne, I would have fired my boss.
I wish I had lived in the USA some years. If I had lived in the USA some years, I would have spoken English fluently.
My mother wishes she had travelled to Europe. If my mother had travelled to Europe, she would have met the Queen of England.
My father wishes he had won the lottery. If he had won the lottery, he would have bought a new car.
Francisco wishes he had gone to university. If he had gone to university, he would have studied medicine.
Have a nice day, Alejandra Barrantes
Hi Alejandra,
Great job–just hope your old boss doesn’t read it!
Ryan
Hi all, here are my wishes..
– I wish I had known that the TEC admission test is very hard when I was a teenager, If I had known that, probably I would have practiced more.
– I wish I had gotten a job at Boston Scientific as a Neurotransmission Engineer, If I had gotten that job, I would have done the work that I have always wanted.
– The most of the Costa Rican people wish Luis Guillermo Solís hadn’t been the president, If Luis Guillermo Solis hadn’t been the president, the president would have been Jhonny Araya.
– My cat wishes she hadn’t shat on my bed, If she hadn’t shat on my bed, she would have continued sleeping there.
– My cousin wishes she had gotten a better grade on the UCR admission test, if she had gotten a better grade, she would have studied Grpahical Design.
Hi Saul,
Nice job, but divide the wish sentences from the conditional sentences. Otherwise, it’s too long and confusing.
Ryan
Hey!
These are my wishes
1- I wish I had saved money last year. If I had saved money last year, I would have bought a dog.
2- My dog wishes he had been a human. If he had been a human, he would have bought a dog.
3- My sister wishes she had won a scholarship. If my sister had won a scholarship, she would have studied abroad.
4- I wish I had gone to Europe last summer. If I had gone to Europe last summer, I would have gone to Finland.
5- My brother wishes he had finished his homework before. If he had finished his homework before, he wouldn’t have stayed up all night working.
See you!
Hey Yosen,
Excellent job again!
Ryan
*My brother wishes he had gotten a good grades on his exams, If he had gotten good grades he wouldnt have studied in his vacation.
*Maria wishes she had gone to France, If she had gone to France she wouldnt have visited the Eiffel Tower.
*Luis wishes he had gotten a better job, If she had gotten a better job he would have bought I new car.
* I wish I had been president of Costa Rica, If I had been president of Costa Rica I would have removed the exams of all the institutions.
* Carlos wishes he had gone to the beach, If he had gone to the beach he would have enjoyed the beach
Hi Xiomara,
I’d give you the same comment I gave to Saul: divide the wish and the conditional parts. If they’re together, it’s too long and called a “run-on sentence.”
Good job!
Ryan
Hi!
-Jimena wishes she hadn’t put her head in the gate. If she hadn’t put her head in the gate, she would never been stuck in the gate.
-Layla wishes she had finished the college. If she had finished the college, she would be working in a laboratory.
-He wishes he had a good job. If he had a good job, he wouldn’t be worry about his future.
-I wish I hadn’t woken up late this morning. If I hadn’t woken up late this morning, i wouldn’t been late to class.
-I wish I hadn’t eaten so much cereal. If I hadn’t eaten so much cereal, I wouldn’t been so full as I am right now.
Hi Naomy,
Good job, but don’t forget the “have” in the result of the conditional sentence. So the first should be “…she never would have been/gotten stuck” and the later one would be “I wouldn’t have been late.” The last one, though, is a result in second conditional (which is OK), so it should be “I wouldn’t be as full as I am right now.”
Good work, though!
Ryan
-Luis wishes he had enough money, if he had enough money, he would have a big house.
-Diana wishes she had her vacation, if she had her vacation, she would be very happy.
-I wish i were rich, if i were rich,i would have a new car.
– I wish I had many friends, if I have many friends, I would be happy.
– I wish I were famous, If I were famous, I would help many people
