Saturday Class Homework, Week 2
Let’s face it: bringing chocolate may not make your presentation better.
But it certainly can’t make it worse.
Hello again! Here’s the homework assignment for my Saturday class:
You have a presentation next week. Here are the main guidelines, as we discussed in class:
-It should be at least 5-10 minutes.
-The presentation can be about an invention or inventor, a famous person, or a wonder of the world (or what you consider to be a wonder of the world).
-Try to find a way to include your classmates and make them participate. That way, it’ll be more interesting for everyone (and everyone will get to practice more English). You can do a game, an activity, some extra comprehension questions, etc. Tell me if you have problems with this part.
-If you use a Powerpoint or anything like that, it’s OK, but not necessary. Also, be sure it enhances your presentation. If not, don’t use it.
-Don’t read and don’t memorize your presentation.
-If you can, try to incorporate the passive voice. But it’s not critical.
-It’s always a good idea to bring chocolate.
And, of course…
-No Celine Dion!
Alright, that’s your reminder for the presentation. Now, here’s your official homework assignment:
WEEK 2 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:
After you have chosen the topic for your presentation, think of other ideas you had for possible topics. Then, write 10 sentences about the topics you didn’t choose, using embedded questions (which we’ve been practicing in class). For example, if I want to do a presentation about Einstein, I need to write my sentences about someone or something besides him. I could say:
-I’d like to know how the pyramids in Egypt were built.
-I don’t have any idea how Nikola Tesla never became more famous than he was.
-Do you know who the inventor of the modem was?
-Does anyone know if the tour of Tenochtitlan is cool?
And so on. If you have any questions about this, just ask me. Good luck, and see you on Saturday!

Hey Angie,
Very good! The only thing I noticed was a few issues with the word “the.” You don’t need it for something like “television” or “equality,” but you should use it for “The Dalai Lama” or “The Eiffel Tower.” I guess if it’s some general concept or thing, don’t use it but if it’s specific, use it. Kinda confusing.
See you in class!
Ryan

The rest looks good! See you in class,
Ryan
